Fred Pickering

Fred is one of those rare Arizona natives. His parents came out here in 1927 from Texas as a young couple, so Fred was born and raised in the early days of Phoenix. He went to Korea in 1953 when he was drafted into the Army and stayed with them for 2 years.

For his leisure activities he now likes to spend some time traveling around the United States. Two years ago he took a trip into 10 of the states enjoying the variety of the states of Utah, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado amongst others.

Fred spent 35 years with what is now United Metro Materials driving big trucks. He has raised five children, 4 sons and one daughter, and now has both a 21 year old and 4 year old grandsons.

Hundreds of vehicles! Fred said over the years he has bought and sold, fixed up and enjoyed lots and lots of different cars and trucks. Now he has in his possession a 1930 2 door Ford chopped down, and a 1950 Studebaker Starlight Coupe, future to be a Pro Streeter, both still under construction. But you usually see him cruising in h is 'Purple' 1949 Mercury Coupe, restored but still being worked on.

RWCA has had Fred as a member for five years.
